No. 43 The Song Sparrow

Every Bird Has a Story:

Sparrows are hard and many birders simply lump them together as LBJs - Little Brown Jobs. I’ve been guilty of this, but as I become a more experienced birder I am seeing and hearing the nuances of these interesting little birds.

The Song Sparrow is aptly named and I when I lead birding groups, I believe I’ve the tip for quickly identifying their song. If it begins or ends with a “dink -dink” it’s a Song Sparrow. If it’s in the margin between the forest and open meadow, it’s even a stonger indication. When I can get a look I look for the streaky breast.
