Pennsylvania Dutch Noah's Ark
Pennsylvania Dutch Noah's Ark
I spend November and December building, painting and printing Christmas items as Santa Claus. Much of the work is completed in my shop window where I work in Character. The items made during this season become special heirloom items.
This toy is an authentic copy of a Pennsylvania German toy made up into the 1920s. It has been meticulously constructed as would have been more than a century ago. Each piece is meticulously hand-carved of New England Sourced White Pine and finished with traditional (and non-toxic) milk paints, shellac and wax. The Ark is constructed in the same manner using period appropriate hardware. The Ark opens so that the animal may be stored inside. With care these toys are safe (see below) and should last several lifetimes.
The Ark includes pairs of Elephants, Giraffes, Camels, tigers, bears and sheep dogs.
The Ark is 12” x 5” 12” - Animals range from 1 1/2” long to 3 1/2” long.
This Ark is hand signed by Santa Claus and labelled with a Santa Made label letterpress label hand printed on Santa's antique printing presses.
This toy is sold as an heirloom collectors' item It is meant to be cherished and displayed and collected. It's also meant to be played with with the understanding that this is an authentic period toy. While every effort is made to make these toys safe, authentic toys inherently fail to meet modern safety standards. Leashes and loose details are strangulation and choking hazards. These toys are meant to be used under direct adult supervision.
